Path to Citizenship
In most cases, the United Arab Emirates does not offer a direct path to citizenship by naturalisation. Long-term residency, including the Golden Visa, rarely leads to Emirati citizenship and does not confer nationality. While the UAE has introduced limited exceptions allowing dual citizenship by special decree, these remain rare and discretionary. As a result, Golden Visa holders should not expect residency to result in UAE citizenship or the acquisition of an additional nationality.
Renewal Requirements
UAE long-term residence visas are issued for fixed terms of 3, 5, or 10 years and must be renewed upon expiry. Golden Visa holders are not subject to minimum stay requirements. To remain eligible for renewal, applicants must continue to meet the qualifying criteria of their specific visa category, including maintaining any required investment for the prescribed duration.
