Fast Citizenship Timeline
The case study involves Americans in Hong Kong who wanted citizenship as quickly as possible before a major business transition.
Citizenship by Investment Case Study #2 talks about why we recommended a specific citizenship by investment program based on a specific fact scenario. The scenario is two United States citizens residing in Hong Kong. They want a second passport to be able to renounce their current citizenship as fast as possible and wish to relocate themselves and their technology business to another country. Given that they were in an extreme hurry the fastest citizenship program is the 60 day accelerated St.Kitts CBI program option. Under the accelerated option it is an additional US$25,000 for the main applicant and US$20,000 for the spouse for the due diligence accelerated processing. At the moment, the cost for a couple to do St.Kitts & Nevis citizenship under the donation option is US$175,000. At the same time as doing citizenship by investment, we organized a US tax attorney to assist them with the exit tax and US citizenship renunciation process. Ensuring proper tax planning is important. Given that they have a technology/fintech/crypto company they relocated to Dubai and became residents of Dubai. Dubai has a number of tax advantages and business opportunities for entrepreneurs. Disclaimer: This video is for information purposes only and does not constitute legal or financial advice.
What This Video Covers
The case study involves Americans in Hong Kong who wanted citizenship as quickly as possible before a major business transition.
Jennifer discusses why the accelerated processing route was considered for clients who urgently needed a Plan B passport.
The plan paired citizenship by investment with relocation of the family and technology business to Dubai.
The discussion includes opening bank accounts in Singapore or elsewhere and coordinating banking with residency and citizenship planning.
The case study notes that tax planning was part of the process because the clients were considering renouncing US citizenship.
Jennifer: Hello, it's Jennifer Harding Marlin, an attorney that works at the law firm JH Marlin Law, a law firm that specializes in Citizenship by Investment. I'm coming to you from beautiful Norway, but most of the time I spend my time in the Caribbean. And today's video is going to be case study number two. And it's going to talk about why we recommended a specific citizenship program for clients based on their needs and how we created a Plan B option for this client, for these clients. The fact situation is that they are citizens, two Americans that are residing in Hong Kong and they want to get citizenship as quickly as possible. They also wanted to relocate themselves and their business and they have a they're into fintech and they have technology company and so really having a Plan B option in place before they went on to sell their business and or kind of like reach the next level in business, they wanted to have a Plan B option in place.
Jennifer: So their goal is to get citizenship as quickly as possible and therefore we recommended the St. Kitts and Nevis citizenship program under the 60-day accelerated processing. This is an additional cost so you really, you know, it's particularly if you're really, really desperate to have it as quickly as possible. You can pay an additional $25,000 for the main applicant and $20,000 for the spouse and depending on the age of the children there's also additional fees and while they say it takes 60 days it can take sometimes a little bit longer to get the citizenship. Most often we have clients undergo the regular procedure for citizenship but if you really in need of citizenship as quickly as possible, then this is definitely the quickest option. And so at the same time as getting them their St. Kitts and Nevis citizenship, we helped with the relocation of them to Dubai and their company to Dubai and to do the Dubai Residency Program as well.
Jennifer: So there's advantages about doing, particularly if you have a technology company, and the tax implications of being in Dubai were more favorable for this client for particularly what they wanted to do. At the same time, they were interested in opening bank accounts. So from Singapore and elsewhere, they were able to open bank accounts. At the same time as doing this, we also did tax planning because they were going on to renounce their citizenship. And so we have a series of U.S. Tax advisors that help our clients with the tax planning and ensuring that you can legally minimize the taxation with exit tax and that you do everything properly. So this is sort of a little case study of why we recommended St. Kitts and Nevis in this particular case. Oftentimes we recommend St. Kitts and Nevis for families and or for people under the accelerated processing.
Jennifer: So look out for case study number three, which will talk about a completely different situation with clients from a completely different nationality and what citizenship we recommended for them. Okay, all the best for now. Bye!
